In its first Express Entry draw of 2022, Canada granted Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to 392 Provincial Nominee Program candidates. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score for the January 5 draw was 808 points, which was 88 points higher than the previous PNP round. It continues to see Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) avoids doing all-program drawings, the most recent of which was held in December 2020.
In 2021, IRCC issued a total of 114,431 ITAs, all of which went to CEC and PNP candidates. It surpassed the previous high of 107,350, which was established in 2020.IRCC has resorted to drawings for PNP and CEC candidates during the coronavirus outbreak, focusing on candidates who are already in Canada on employment or study permits.
On March 4, 2021, at 12:57 p.m. EST, the tie-breaking rule was adopted in the most recent draw. Only those who submitted their Express Entry profiles before this date and time received invites if more than one candidate had the minimal CRS score. This was the first round of Express Entry invites in 2021, and the 213th overall.
What is Express Entry?
On January 1, 2015, Canadian immigration authorities (IRCC) established an immigration system called Express Entry to manage skilled worker applications under Federal Economic programmes. The Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, the Canada Experience Class, and portions of the Provincial Nomination Programs all fall under one umbrella.
Stakeholders expect Canada to continue issuing large numbers of invites as it works toward its goal of 411,000 new permanent residents by 2022. During the COVID-19 crisis, CRS ratings remain difficult to anticipate due to program-specific draws.
With the outbreak of the coronavirus in March 2020, Canada switched to program-specific draws for applicants in the Canadian Experience Class and Provincial Nominee Program. This resulted in a much higher number of individual draws than in prior years.
